Lost Coast

Fog and rain bring moisture to the Mendocino coast, making it ideal for growing redwood trees. The redwoods were harvested starting in the mid-1800’s to help build San Francisco, and the only way to do so was by loading logs into small skiffs tossing in waves between the offshore rocks. When it became too costly to harvest trees this way, the lumber companies abandoned the coast, hence its name: Lost Coast.
